Uplands weekly update

The SUDS travelled to Mumbles to face The Valley who have relocated to The Newton Inn. In a tense match it was the SUDS who came away victorious by six legs to five propelling them into sixth in the league.  One league game to go next week at home come and join in the excitement.

A huge result on Saturday for the 1st XV who beat promotion rivals Aberavon Quins. Three times this season we have played the Quins with a win a piece we knew this game would be a tough physical encounter and those who came along to support weren’t disappointed.

The half time break saw the visitors ahead by seven points to fifteen.  A well worked try from Daf Lewis and the subsequent conversion by Peter Anson gave us our points whilst the visitors outside half contributed five penalty kicks.

Early in the second half a penalty by Peter Anson brought the score to 10-15 but ten minutes later the Quins went over for a try bringing the score to 10-20.  A superb cross field kick from Dan Bennett saw wing Tom Edmunds gather the ball and go over with Peter Anson again slotting over the resulting conversion, 17-20.  Next to score were the Quins with another penalty conversion.

With the clock ticking down it was a nail-biting time for both sets of supporters.  The Quins were under massive pressure from continuous driving mauls from the men in green and white which eventually paid off with Sion Edmunds going over for a try. Step up Peter Anson for the conversion to win the game which he calmly slotted over.  Final score 24-23.  A great game with both sides leaving nothing out on the pitch.  Pictured is the ND John Man of the Match Peter Anson receiving his bottle of fizz from team manager Wayne Jervis.

Before kick off the Youth and Under 16’s had their development training game, which both squads got a huge amount out of.  Great to see the talent coming through.

The club will be open from 1.15pm on Saturday.  Come and watch the Wales v Italy game with us in a relaxed atmosphere on the big screens.  Game kicks off at 2.15pm.
